Clients and referralsBuild a professional network when you have no address book
No address book? No problem. Here is how to start making professional connections from the beginning.

You are starting out, and building a network feels confusing. No panic. Plenty of women arrive without knowing anyone. That is exactly where the network comes in.
1. Join a business network. It is a direct way to meet other women who, like you, want to grow their work. At Power to Network, you do not need an address book. Recommendations come from the other members, and you can start becoming known at your first meeting.
2. Go to the events. In person or online, they are the moment to talk and to connect. You can come to a Business Coffee, a workshop, or an Open space. These moments are less formal, and you can introduce yourself without pressure. Word of mouth does the rest.
3. Take the time to introduce yourself. No pitch. Nobody asks you to present yourself in 30 seconds. You share your project, your ideas, and what you are looking for by answering questions. Talk about what you care about. It makes the introduction more like you.
4. Use what the network teaches. This is a school-network. Use the shared resources, the training, and the workshops to get clearer, and more comfortable talking about your work. The online tools also help you stay in touch from a distance.
5. Show up regularly. Even with little time, come back. That is how people get to know you, and how a relationship lasts. Being there builds your visibility and your credibility.
6. Ask for help. If you have a question or a doubt, ask the other members. Mutual help is at the centre of the network. Other women have often been through something similar, and they can give you something useful. Kindness is the rule here.
7. Create partnerships. Look for ways to work with other women: a shared project, an exchange of services, or an event you build together. A partnership widens your circle and opens resources you did not have.
8. Use social networks. LinkedIn, Instagram, Facebook, or YouTube can help. Share your path, what worked, and what was hard. Talk with other professionals, and join groups close to your field.
In short, building a network without an address book is entirely possible. Most of the members who join our school-network do not arrive with many contacts. That does not stop them leaving with qualified prospects every week.
